Conference 2.0: Peer Professional Development
The ability to hold a virtual conference allows the re-thinking of conferences in ways that are both intriguing and potentially more aligned with constructivist teaching and learning practices, and especially supportive of peer teaching and learning. Without the limitations normally present at a physical conference (number of rooms, cost of travel), a "conference 2.0" virtual conference can shift the focus from vetting and selection to inclusion and audience-choice. This allows many more to participate as presenters, with the audience choosing which sessions to attend. These events are a blast (fun), as they are distinguished by their inclusiveness, their high-volunteer participation, and their community-building nature. Like the Web 2.0 Labs' networks, these virtual conferences are a significant opportunity for peer professional development.
"We were amazed to see how well everything flowed on Thursday—from the keynote presentations to the sessions with only a few people in them. The caliber of presentations were top notch and your coordination was incredible. The volunteers were extraordinary. Everything really just seemed to point at this being a premier professional development opportunity for school leaders across the globe. We thank you for making this possible and truly honored to be working with you." - Jason Borgen, TICAL, on the inaugural School Leadership Summit
